24,000 Meter Row to benefit Charlotte’s cancer community

CHARLOTTE – Sugar Creek Brewing Company, Crossfit Mecklenburg and 24 Foundation invites area residents to pull together for the cancer community at a unique rowing event.

The fifth annual Michelle’s Mighty Mission 24,000 Meter Row takes place Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Sugar Creek Brewing Company, 215 Southside Drive.

Competitive teams of two or non-competitive (party boat) teams of two to four will come together to complete a combined total of 24,000 meters rowed. Participants must be 8 or older to participate.

“Cancer touches more people than you realize,” said Joe Vogelbacher, co-founder of Sugar Creek Brewing Company. “Come out and make a difference for a great cause.”

Vogelbacher founded the 24,000 Meter Row in memory of his sister, Michelle, who passed away from a rare form of liver cancer.

“This row is for everyone,” Vogelbacher said. “If my 79-year-old dad can do it, so can you.”

There are 60 team slots and 20 competitive slots available. Registration costs $50 per person and fundraising is encouraged but not required. The top fundraising team and top individual fundraiser will win a prize. There will be cash prizes for the top three fastest competitive teams. Spectator tickets are also available. Visit https://michellesmightymission.com/ to register.

“Come be part of the crew dedicated to the pain and suffering that people all over the world endure every day while fighting cancer,” said Katherine Murphy, executive director of 24 Foundation. “Every dollar raised makes an immediate and significant impact on children, adults, and families affected by cancer in our community.”

MirrorMate, a DIY frame kit for wall-mounted mirrors, is a sponsor of the event, which includes a DJ, food and drinks.
