MINT HILL – An officer with the Mint Hill Police Department was directing traffic around 8:12 a.m. Aug. 27 on Idlewild Road when someone reported that she was being followed by a woman with a firearm.
The suspect’s vehicle was behind the victim’s vehicle. The officer requested that the suspect pull to the side of the road.
Officers determined the incident began while students were being dropped off at Mint Hill Middle School. The suspect was accused of brandishing a firearm at the victim while following her and gesturing in a threatening manner.
Police said the altercation on school grounds was verbal, leading officers to believe the weapon wasn’t displayed there. However, officers found a firearm inside the suspect’s vehicle and determined the weapon had been brought onto school grounds during student drop-off.
The Mint Hill Police Department arrested Jodie Abrams, 37, on charges of communicating threats and felony possession of a weapon on campus or other educational property.
